Portrush Adelphi ★★★★★

Just steps from the Atlantic shoreline and the heart of Portrush, the Adelphi offers a relaxed and elegant base for guests who enjoy comfort, good food, and the ease of being close to everything. Originally built in the 1800s, the hotel has evolved with the town, retaining a sense of heritage while embracing modern style and thoughtful hospitality.

Rooms are calm, cosy and beautifully refreshed, with coastal tones and quality finishes that make returning after a day on the links feel effortless. The Red Sail dining room offers relaxed meals built around local ingredients, while the atmosphere throughout the hotel feels warm, welcoming and easy to settle into especially for a group travelling together.

Adelphi also understands golf. With Royal Portrush just a short walk away, the hotel provides simple conveniences such as club storage. It feels designed for golfers without being defined by golf , a balance many guests appreciate.

Portrush Atlantic Hotel ★★★/★

Golf Courses

Portstewart – The Strand

Portstewart’s Strand Course is dramatic from the very first swing,  a starting hole considered by many to be the most spectacular opening in Irish golf. Towering dunes create corridors of green and gold, with the Atlantic stretching broad and blue beyond. Originally founded in 1894 but redesigned in 1992 and recently in 2025, across wild dune land, The Strand is a modern links with ancient soul.

The course rewards courage and imagination, yet still joyful and fair to play. It’s the kind of round that stays in memory long after the scorecard fades.

Home to three fine true links golf courses. Few clubs in the British Isles or Ireland can claim to have three courses under their name.

The outstanding Championship Strand Course was the host for the 2017 Irish Open. Jon Rahm, the 2017 Winner was certainly impressed, “the golf course is amazing. It’s probably one of the most beautiful golf courses I have ever seen, if not the most”.

The scoring however, is very much between yourself and Mother Nature…

Royal Portrush – Valley Links

Originally laid out in the late 1800s and later refined by Harry Colt, the course was first associated with the Ladies’ Branch of the club, making it a fitting venue for our Ladies Invitational.

On lovely natural seaside turf, the Valley is a full-length championship course of 6,346 yards from the Championship tees. On this course, one of the two qualifying rounds in the North of Ireland Open Championship is played annually.

The course is situated in sheltered War Hollow territory . The War Hollow forms part of the Valley Links today and this part of the Valley is said to have been the scene of an ancient battle between The Chieftains of The Route and Magnus Barefoot, King of Norway. This battle took place around 1102.

The natural hazards are such as to make this course a really stern test for the low-handicap golfer and accuracy is needed in the approach shots to the small and cleverly sited greens.

Portrush’s Ryder Cup star, US Open Champion and multiple winner on the European tour, Graeme McDowell learned his game on the Valley links and the course is consistently ranked among the top golf courses in Ireland.

Originally designed by Harry Colt, the course has recently undergone major changes under Martin Ebert’s supervision.

Ballycastle Golf Club

Ballycastle Golf Club, founded in 1890, sits yards from the shoreline on the Causeway Coast, a spectacular stretch of golfing coastline of unsurpassed beauty. The golf course is one of the most scenic in Northern Ireland and has a multitude of personalities from lush and historic parkland holes to wild links offerings and includes holes carved out amongst undulating dunes and a back nine that launches you up into seaside hills that command panoramic views of the town of Ballycastle, Fair Head, Rathlin Island and on a clear day the Mull of Kintyre and some of the western isles of Scotland.

Ballycastle’s hill-top golf course at the end of Glenshesk, one of County Antrim’s famous Nine Glens, is set amongst some of Northern Ireland’s most outstanding natural scenery.

There is the rugged beauty of the Causeway Coast with northerly views across the bay towards the idyllic Rathlin Island with its three lighthouses. Gaze just beyond it on the clearest of days, and it’s possible to catch sight of Scotland’s Mull of Kintyre.

The majestic Donegal Hills lie to the west of Ballycastle while to the south-east are the peaks and valleys of the Antrim Glen

Fast-flowing rivers, the steepest wooded hills, manicured greens and an ancient ruined abbey are just a few of the features that are sure to provide a pleasurable test for every golfer. It’s such a unique course it’s hardly surprising that Ballycastle Golf Course is seen as a hidden gem along the north coast.

Royal Portrush – The Dunluce Championship Links

The Royal Portrush Golf Club was founded in 1888 as The County Club. It became The Royal County Club in 1892 under the patronage of the Duke of York and assumed its present name in 1895 under the patronage of the Prince of Wales.

Situated in the Causeway Coast & Glens area of outstanding natural beauty, Royal Portrush Golf Club is nestled in a triangle of giant sandhills which present magnificent views in all directions — the hills of Donegal in the west, the Isle of Islay and Southern Hebrides in the north, with the iconic Giant’s Causeway and the Skerries in the east. The courses are overlooked by the ruins of the 13th century, Dunluce Castle and this gives its name to Royal Portrush’s famous Dunluce Links, one of the most challenging golf courses, ranked in the top 10 golf courses in the world.

A host to three Open Championships, 1951, 2019 and most recently 2025.

Fairways ripple like ocean currents, greens cling to edges and plateaus, and Calamity Corner, the par 3 16th, stands as one of the worlds most thrilling golf shots. Yet Dunluce is not simply difficult, it’s soulful, it rewards courage, creativity and patience.
