A huge thank you to Tourism Northern Ireland for the kind invitation to take part The 153rd Open R&A Patron Day at Royal Portrush Golf Club on Tuesday – a fantastic celebration of the return of The Open to our shores this July.

It was a pleasure to play alongside Gareth McCullough, Senior Sports Journalist at Bauer Media / Cool FM, John Mulgrew Editor at Ulster Business Magazine and @Geoff Johnson, GM Castlerock Golf Club.

We couldn’t have asked for better conditions – a world-class course bathed in sunshine, the soothing sound of waves, wildflowers in bloom, and birdsong all around. A truly special day.

As a local Portrush resident, I feel very lucky to call this course my home. And yes – I managed a birdie on the iconic 5th hole: two on, one putt… I’ll happily take that kind of luck!

The day wrapped up with a brilliant prize-giving dinner at the clubhouse. We enjoyed delicious food and inspiring words from Mike Woodcock of The R&A and Ellvena Graham OBE FIoD, Chair of Tourism NI.

Hats off to the Tourism NI team for their warm hospitality and seamless hosting. Thank you George Diamondis, Becca Tootill (Kerr), Deirdre Woods, Events Officer and Aine Kearney, Director of Business & Sports Events at Tourism NI.

Counting down the days until The Open returns in July. Here’s hoping we see Rory lift the Claret Jug on home soil!
